Fremantle Prison, Western Australia - Heritage Management Plan

MANAGING AUSTRALIA'S WORLD HERITAGE

Client: The Western Australian Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage

The project

Extent Heritage was engaged (in partnership with Lovell Chen) to prepare a Heritage Management Plan for Fremantle Prison - a place inscribed on the World Heritage List. The Heritage Management Plan required our team to identify all of the relevant heritage values and then develop management policies and specific management actions for the conservation of the prison’s Outstanding Universal Value, in addition to its state heritage significance and local heritage values.

Value Unlocked

We worked to ensure that the HMP struck an appropriate balance between the heritage conservation needs of the place and its important economic and social dimensions (including tourism opportunities). Further, Extent Heritage provided the Fremantle Prison HMP to the client in both traditional hard copy form and as a webpage that could be navigated according to the user’s needs. The comprehensive text was broken down into digestible pieces and arranged digitally under tabs and links.
