Sarah Janson

Senior Heritage Advisor

 

Experience
Sarah Janson is a heritage advisor with experience working in both historical heritage and Aboriginal archaeology. Specialising in Australian historical archaeology at the University of Sydney (2011–2015), Sarah completed a research thesis on expressions of mortuary commemorations at Sydney’s former North Head Quarantine Station cemetery. As part of this project, Sarah developed key skills in research design and using statistical and database software packages for archaeological analysis. She has presented this research at both local and international forums.

As a research assistant with the ARC-funded linkage project ‘Stories from the Sandstone: The Archaeology and History of Quarantine’, Sarah contributed her research and field work skills to conduct a comprehensive survey of historical cemetery remains as well as assisting in GIS mapping of the site. Sarah has also worked as a field assistant on historical excavations in Sydney and academic Aboriginal archaeological projects.

Sarah has over four years’ experience in the museum sector and is developing skills in collections management, cataloguing and artefact handling and care.
