Collingwood House Conservation Management Plan

ONE OF THE OLDEST HOUSES IN NSW

Client: Liverpool Council

The Project

Extent Heritage was commissioned to prepare a conservation management plan (CMP) for the State Heritage Register-listed Collingwood House, in response to planned restoration work and future adaptive reuse of the site. The aim of the project was to provide the necessary framework and guidance to conserve, maintain and use the site in a manner that is sympathetic to the significance of the site and allows Council to better plan long-term conservation and maintenance requirements.

OUR ROLE

Extent Heritage led the preparation of the CMP, brining together expertise from three disciplines to prepare a CMP that covers the built heritage, historical, archaeological, and Aboriginal cultural heritage values of the place. Utilising its in-house architects, Extent Heritage also prepared documentation to assist with the ongoing management of the place, such as a cyclical management plan.

Value Unlocked

Collingwood House was constructed circa 1810 and is recognised as one of the oldest houses in New South Wales. Extent Heritage was able to refine Liverpool Council’s understanding of Collingwood House and the surrounding parklands, and develop an industry best-practice heritage management framework that will guide the house and its operations over the next ten years. Further, Extent Heritage unlocked the previously underrepresented heritage value of the site, that being the Aboriginal heritage values of the place.
