SYMPOSIUM: EXTENT HERITAGE LEADS THE WAY ON SEA COUNTRY

In March this year, First Peoples – State Relations hosted a Symposium for Assessment of Submerged Landscapes. Extent Heritage, along with our UK colleagues Wessex Archaeology, were there to present our sector-leading work providing cultural heritage services and advice on Australia’s underwater heritage, and the cultural values of Sea Country.

Extent Heritage CEO Ian Travers and Dr Hanna Steyne from the Wessex Archaeology Coastal and Marine Archaeology team discuss the pilot study of the submerged terrestrial landscape of Portland Bay, Victoria, which is being undertaken in collaboration with Gunditjmara Traditional Owners through the Gunditj Mirring Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation.

‘Between Extent Heritage, Wessex Archaeology and the Gunditj Mirring Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation our approach will achieve an unrivalled understanding of the nature of the landscape and its cultural heritage values,’ says Extent Heritage CEO Ian Travers.

‘The key is that Traditional Owners have to be central to the process. As well as best enabling positive outcomes in offshore development, this is completely Extent Heritage's ethos, and we’re excited to take this collaboration to the next stages.'

We’re now proud to present a recording of our talk. Click below to watch the full presentation:
