ACCOUNTANT - 6 MONTH CONTRACT

Extent Heritage is one of Australia's largest heritage advisory firms, with offices in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, and a national team of around eighty professional staff. We work across government and private sectors, delivering expert advisory services on complex and high-profile projects.

Our Finance team supports the day-to-day running of the business and works closely with the wider organisation. As we continue to grow, this role offers a great opportunity to build practical accounting experience in a supportive and collaborative environment.

About the Role

We are seeking an Accountant to join our Finance team on a six-month fixed-term contract to cover a period of parental leave. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), this role is responsible for the day-to-day financial operations of the business and provides practical, hands-on support across accounts payable, payroll, and month-end reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage accounts payable, including processing supplier invoices and staff reimbursements

  • Prepare and manage the fortnightly payroll process

  • Prepare and manage BAS, PAYG, superannuation payments, and payroll tax

  • Assist with month-end processes, including journals, monthly P&L reporting, and balance sheet reconciliations

  • Assist with end-of-month invoicing and financial reporting

  • Undertake additional tasks as required by the CFO, project teams, or the Executive Management Team

Essential Requirements

  • Degree in Accounting

  • Strong numeracy skills with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy

  • Experience using Xero accounting software and processing payroll

  • Minimum 1-2 years of payroll processing experience

  • Strong computer literacy with the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to manage competing priorities and adapt to changing business needs

  • 3-5 years of accounting experience required

  • Australian work rights are required for this position

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience working with project management software Synergy
